New Delhi: In view of the striking rise in Omicron infections across the country, PM Narendra Modi chaired a review meeting at 6:30 pm today.

Ahead of the holiday season, the Centre today also warned states and UTs to be vigilant and monitor the positivity rate closely. It has advised local curbs at public places ahead of the festive season and pressed night curfew.  As measures to contain the spread, it advises authorities to notify containment zones and buffer zones in case of new COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, vaccination of all eligible populations of the state is also listed.

Hours before PM Modi chaired the meeting, Union Health Ministry, sounded an alert for states with low vaccination coverage vulnerable to the variant. He instructed state authorities to take account of the vaccination status and expedite the process.

India’s COVID tally plunged as the financial capital of the nation logged 602 cases in 24 hours. Currently, the Omicron tally stands at 295, scrambling the officials. The latest data by the govt documented 7,495 total infections which included 295 infections attributed to Omicron.
