Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue his annual tradition of sending a ceremonial chadar to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah during the 813th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The chadar will be handed over to Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Morcha President Jamal Siddiqui at 6 PM on Thursday. They will present it at the revered Sufi shrine on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Since assuming office, PM Modi has sent the chadar to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah ten times. This year will mark his eleventh offering during the Urs, a festival commemorating the death anniversary of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, which attracts millions of devotees every year.

Last year, Union Minister Smriti Irani and Jamal Siddiqui offered the ceremonial chadar on behalf of the Prime Minister. The tradition reflects a gesture of respect and reverence toward one of India’s most significant Sufi shrines.

The chadar offering comes amid an ongoing legal dispute involving the shrine. A Rajasthan court is currently hearing a petition from the Hindu Sena, claiming the shrine is built on a Shiva temple. The Ajmer Sharif Dargah Committee has contested this claim, urging the court to dismiss the petition. The next hearing is scheduled for January 24, 2025.
