Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid warm tributes to Veer Savarkar, the well-known Hindutva leader, on the anniversary of his birth. PM Modi recalled Savarkar’s major role in gaining India’s freedom and said that the nation would always be grateful for his strength and sacrifices.
Modi said Savarkar suffered greatly from brutal torture, but his loyalty and belief in his country did not waver. The Prime Minister said that his unwavering commitment still inspires people today and will help India grow and become independent.
In 1883, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was born in Maharashtra and became famous for his daring beliefs and fierce loyalty to India’s freedom. He urged supporters to fight back against the British and played a big part in developing Hindutva, a view stressing Hindu character and nationalism. Spurred by his writings on various topics, many regarded him as a major intellectual of the early United States.
Savarkar, because of his revolutionary activities, was taken to prison in the Andaman Islands Cellular Jail for two life sentences. He is remembered by BJP members as a great leader, yet his sharply pro-Hindutva positions cause the Congress to see him in a negative light.
In spite of opposing debates about his ideology, Mr. Modi has made clear why Savarkar still matters in India’s history, as someone who stood for bravery, sacrifice, and lasting love for the nation.
