NEW DELHI: Sources report PM Modi is scheduled to review the COVID-19 situation in the country today. This meeting comes a day after the Union Health Minister reviewed the COVID norms at a meeting.

India recorded 185 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate was recorded at 98.80 per cent and the total recoveries stood at 44142432. The number of active cases stood at 3,402 accounting for 0.01 per cent of the total number of cases.

However, the mortality rate stood at 1.19 per cent with the cumulative death toll at 530681. With the administration of 66,197 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 220.02 crore according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Amid the fresh Covid scare, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday chaired a high- level meeting to review the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country and the preparedness of the public health system for surveillance, Containment and management of the pandemic. He urged people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Emphasising that the pandemic is not over yet, he asked officials to be fully geared up to challenge and step up surveillance. State health officials announced on Wednesday that all Covid-positive samples would be sent for genome sequencing. States have been instructed to set up sample collection at the airports to keep a conduct on genome sequencing to track emergence of variants.

India, in the last six months, reported four cases of the BF.7 Omicron sub-variant, which is driving the current surge of infections in China.
