Prime Minister Narendra Modi is soon to start a grand diplomatic tour in the last ten years, which would cover five countries in eight days, i.e., between July 2 and July 9. The high-profile tour, in which India is increasingly paying attention to the Global South, will visit states in Africa, the Caribbean and South America.
Modi will begin the tour in Ghana, where this is his first visit to the West African country since winning the elections in 2014. It is also the first time that an Indian Prime Minister has visited Ghana in the last 30 years. In Accra, PM Modi is supposed to extend his assistance in supplying a regional vaccine facility to augment healthcare capacity in Africa. He will also be addressing the Ghanaian Parliament, thus looking to intensify political and economic cordial relations between the two nations.
In Ghana, the Prime Minister is expected to fly to Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, where he will respond to the invitation of the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. It is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Island state in 25 years. PM Modi will give an address at a Joint Session of Parliament there, strengthening India-Caribbean cultural and historical ties, with a large Indian diaspora there.
The third leg of the tour will lead the Prime Minister to Argentina and meet with President Javier Milei. The strategic partnership between India and Argentina will be enhanced through this visit that focuses on major areas in defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and trade and investments.
The Ministry of External Affairs considers this multi-nation tour as one big chance to equalise the diplomatic position of India in emerging regions, South-South cooperation and foster win-win partnerships in important sectors of development.
