Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave a promise that India will do everything within its power to ensure that its citizens residing in foreign countries especially West Asia are safe and supported in the current war between Iran and the United States.
At a public gathering in Kochi, the Prime Minister indicated that the Indian government is very much following up the fast changing situation in the area and that it was rather determined to help Indian nationals who might become the victim of the building up tensions. As he highlighted, the stance of India towards its diaspora has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, and the nation makes sure that its citizens do not land in the situation of being left alone in the crises overseas.
Modi observed that the government departments, and Indian diplomatic offices are actively working towards keeping in touch with the Indian communities in various countries of West Asia. The Indian officials cite that the embassies and consulates in the region are in constant contact with Indian workers, professionals and students and they provide the required guidance and help as needed.
The Prime Minister further appreciated the Gulf countries by their assistance and concern of the Indian expatriates throughout the uncertainty period. He also recognized the contribution that these countries make towards the safety and well being of Indian workers who make great contribution to their economies.
His statements are timed when the safety of thousands of Indians who are living in West Asia is being questioned because of the warming tensions between Iran and the United States. The government of New Delhi has indicated that emergency plans are under consideration and a support system is already in place in case the situation deteriorates.
