AHMEDABAD: PM Narendra Modi arrived in Gandhinagar following the demise of his mother, Heeraben who was hospitalized on Tuesday. According to sources, Modi who was scheduled to launch the developmental projects in West Bengal, may join the events through video conferencing. The PMO in a tweet confirmed that the PM would attend all events for the day through video conferencing shortly after the last rights of his mother are performed. The mortal remains of Heeraben Modi have been kept at Gandhinagar at the residence of PM Modi’ younger brother along with whom she used to live.
The UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad, in a press note in the wee hours of Friday confirmed her death. “Smt Hiraba Modi passed away on 30/12/2022, at 3:39 am (early morning, during the treatment at UN Mehta Heart Hospital,” the hospital statement read.
Heeraben Modi lived with PM Modi’s younger brother Pankaj Modi at Raysan village near Gandhinagar. Narendra Modi would visit her during most of his Gujarat visits.
Informing about the demise of his mother, Modi shared a heartfelt note on his Twitter handle today. The post went as “A glorious century rests at the feet of God… In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”
Condolences poured in as the news surfaced.
Earlier on Thursday, people of ‘Dharmayatra Mahasangh’ in Gujarat’s Vadodara offered prayers at the temple and chanted ‘Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra’ for the ‘good health’ of PM Modi’s mother. Earlier in the day, Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee also offered prayers for the speedy recovery of Heeraben.
