On Wednesday, Narendra Modi declared financial aid to victims of the fire accident that occurred at Palam in Delhi that killed many people and injured others. The Prime Minister expressed extreme regret over the event and announced ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees to the families of every deceased person and 50,000 rupee to the injured, which would be paid out of the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
It was reported that in a message posted on the Prime Ministers Office, Modi offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and hoped they would quickly recover those who were injured. It is alleged that a short circuit caused the fire which erupted in a residential building within the Sadh Nagar region in the early morning of the day.
Immediate rescue and relief efforts were implemented and a team of the Delhi Fire Services, the police, and the National Disaster Response Force were deployed on the ground. Law enforcement attempted to put the fire out and help those who were impacted.
In the meantime Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also lamented the loss of lives. She wrote to the families of the victims, and called upon her party members to come forward in an effort to help the victims of the tragedy.
The event has raised once again the issues of fire precautions in residential premises. Authorities are also underway to establish the specific cause of the fire and how far safety lapses led to the tragedy.
