New Delhi: India marks Flag Adoption Day today as the Tricolour was adopted in its present form on this day in the year 1947. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a series of tweets sharing some interesting nuggets on our National Flag.
He first tweeted, “1947 that our National Flag was adopted. Sharing some interesting nuggets from history including details of the committee associated with our Tricolour and the First tricolor was unfurled by Pandit Nehru”
The leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and other gave life to the nation and its oneness is to be remembered. He further tweeted, “Today we recall the monumental courage and efforts of all those who dreamt of a flag for free India”.

The Indian National Flag was created in 1923 by Pingati Venkayya, most similar to the current one. It was first raised in Nagpur on April 13, 1923 as a part of the ceremony honoring the Jallianwallah Bagh Massacre. At that time, the flag was known as the swaraj flag and was later adopted during the meeting of the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947, 24 days before independence.
