It is worth mentioning that the last phase of the India 2019 18th Lok Sabha elections began at 7 am on Saturday, bringing to an end the massive exercise of electing 543 members to the 18th Lok Sabha. In the current phase of the general election, 8 states and Union Territories have 57 constituencies going to polls – general (41), ST (3) and SC (13) constituencies, and 904 contestants are in the fray. At the same time, the constituency assembly polls of 42 of the Odisha Legislative Assembly are also taking place.
In the 7th phase, Assembly elections are going to be held in Bihar (8/40 constituencies), Himachal Pradesh (all 4), Jharkhand (3/14), Odisha (6/21), Punjab (13/13), Uttar Pradesh (13/80), West Bengal (9/42) and the union territory of Chandigarh. This coming to an end of voting indicates that the world’s largest polling marathon has started on the 19th of April, and up to the present, the six phases of voting with a total of 486 Lok Sabha seats have been completed.
Prominent personalities who are contesting for this phase are Prime Minister Narender Modi from Varanasi for third term, former union minister and BJP strongman Ravi Shankar Prasad from Patna Sahib, Bollywood actress Kangna Ranot from Mandi, Congress – Manish Tewari from Chandigarh, SP’s Afzal Ansari from Ghazipur, and Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh from Karakat.
Highest voter turnout has been recorded in Himachal Pradesh, with 31.92% of voter turnout by 11 AM, followed by Jharkhand (29.55%), Uttar Pradesh (28.02%), and West Bengal with 28.10%. Odisha has recorded the lowest voter turnout among all, with 22.64% of voter turnout by 11 AM.
