New Delhi: The commercial fuel witnessed a hike for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday, where both diesel and petrol prices per litre rose by 80 paise.
With the new spike effective from Saturday 6 am, petrol and diesel cost Rs 98.61 per litre and Rs 88.87 respectively in New Delhi. In the financial capital, the surge took the petrol price to Rs 113. 35 and diesel rates to 97.55.
Earlier, the fuel prices were hikes on Tuesday, Wednesday and then on Friday. Each time an 80 paise rise has been witnessed. The rise after a hiatus of four and a half months are the steepest single-day rise since the daily price revision started in 2017. In four days an overall surge of Rs 3.20 per litre has been recorded.
Hike in fuel rates was on pause since November 4th ahead of assembly elections in 5 major states- a period where the raw material price soared by about USD 30 per barrel. Oil companies that endure the soaring pricing of raw material have now passed the baton to the consumers.
Price across states and UTs vary with the local Vat and freight charges levied on them.
