New Delhi: Petrol and diesel rates were hiked by 80 paise on Tuesday, according to a price notification by state-run fuel retailers. The 13th hike in fuel has attributed to a political uproar, where opposition staged protests and demanded a decrease.
The fuel price on Tuesday morning was retailed with an addition of 80 paise taking the total rise in fuel prices to Rs 9.20 per litre.
Petrol and diesel in Delhi now cost Rs 104.61 and Rs 95.87 per litre respectively. While in the financial capital, petrol cost Rs 119.67 per litre after an increase of 84 paise and diesel at Rs 103.92, increased by 85 paise.
In various districts of Maharashtra, petrol prices have crossed the ₹120 per litre mark. The highest price was in Parbhani, where a litre of petrol is being sold for ₹122.62.
The hike in fuel sparked adjournment in the Rajya Sabha on Monday after repeated disruptions over rising prices of petroleum products and essential commodities demanded a discussion on the matter.
Fuel rate revision had been kept on hold in the past four and a half months despite the surge in crude oil prices. The rising crude oil prices are expected to severely impact India’s foreign exchange outgo, fiscal deficit and inflation.
