During the currently running Monsoon Session, Operation Sindoor will be discussed exhaustively in the parliament on Tuesday, July 29. As per a number of reports, the government is giving 16 hours of debate in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It is a major political and public concern whose stakeholders are major Indian leaders consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
A Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Rajya Sabha met on Wednesday to decide the schedule, and it was decided that the upper house would debate the operation starting July 29. The same should be done in Lok Sabha as well. Although the opposition parties have been happy with the serious debate, they have urgently insisted that the Prime Minister come to the houses and speak on the issue and explain the position taken by the government.
The Parliament debate is playing out against the backdrop of new assertions by the US President Donald Trump, who has been making repeated claims of brokering or bringing a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. His statements have drawn criticism among opposition leaders, especially the Congress party. The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has charged the Prime Minister of remaining silent on Trump, whose 25 assertions in the last 73 days have not been answered by Modi, indicating that the prime minister has opted to change foreign tour and internal political stunts instead of solving the most crucial issues in the country.
“Where have the so-called deshbhakts disappeared?” That is what Gandhi said when he questioned why the Prime Minister did not utter even a single word that would discredit Trump’s claims. The forthcoming parliamentary debate will give an opportunity to the government as well as the opposition to clarify their stand on Operation Sindoor and also answer the question as to why India was diplomacy-less in its relations with a sensitive cross-border issue.
