New Delhi: On the opening day of the Monsoon session of Parliament, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm amid loud protests by the opposition. The uproar in both the Houses occured when Prime Minister Modi began to introduce his new cabinet.

“I thought that there would be enthusiasm in the Parliament as so many women, Dalits, tribals have become Ministers. This time our colleagues from agricultural & rural background, OBC community, have been given a berth in the Council of Ministers”: said PM Modi while introducing his new Council of Ministers. Presenting an objection, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh said that ‘Congress’s behavior in Lok Sabha is sad, unfortunate, and unhealthy”.

While the opposition is looking to corner the Center over numerous issues, the Centre has readied a big legislative agenda. Issues like alleged mismanagement of COVID-19 pandemic and farmer’s agitation, loss of livelihood, business shut downs would be addressed by the Centre.

The proceedings began as the MPs in Rajya Sabha paid tribute to MPs and personalities who lost their lives this year, including veteran athlete Milkha Singh and veteran actor Dilip Kumar. Rajya Sabha was later adjourned for an hour as a mark of respect for two sitting members of Parliament (MPs) Raghunath Mohapatra and Rajeev Satav who bid adieu to the world this year.

In the meanwhile, it is reported that the SC on Monday has asked the Kerala government to file its response during the day on an application against three day relaxation in COVID-19 restrictions in the state for the upcoming Bakrid festival.
