NEW DELHI: The stand-off between the Opposition and Congress continued on day three leading to the adjournment of proceedings at both houses till 2 PM. The Lok Sabha was adjourned following an uproar over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘democracy’ remark while the upper house demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi on the same.
PM Narendra Modi arrived at the Parliament on Wednesday. The Wayanad MP is also expected to attend the session today amid the Centre’s demand for an apology from Gandhi for allegedly insinuating the Indian democracy and Parliament. Remarks by him during his visit to London have reverberated in the house since March 13th- day one of the second leg of the Budget session. The Rajya Sabha faced adjournment for the whole day on Monday and Tuesday amidst the pandemonium as treasury benches sought an apology from the former leader while the objection ever since has objected to the matter and pressed on a JPC to probe Adani-Hindenburg row.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties staged a protest march from Parliament House to ED’s headquarters in Delhi today to submit a memorandum over Adani issue. The protest march began at 12.30 pm from Parliament House and MPs from several opposition parties participated. The Delhi Police tightened security measures outside the Enforcement Directorate’s office after leaders of opposition parties called for a protest march. Earlier today, the leaders met in the office of the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in the Parliament House complex to coordinate their joint strategy on the issue.
The second part of the Budget session of Parliament, which started on Monday, is seeing repeated disruption of proceedings over the remarks made by the Congress leader during his recent visit to the UK. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with several cabinet ministers in Parliament on Tuesday “to deliberate on the government’s strategy in the House.
