The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) bus depot in Mumbai was in panic on Friday after a suspicious bag was noticed and the authorities evacuated the location immediately. This accident happened at around 4:45 PM when a red-coloured bag that was lying unattended raised alarm among the commuters and staff. This terror strike follows soon after a fatal high-intensity explosion along the borders of the Red Fort in Delhi, in which 10 people were killed and dozens more injured, alerting several states to a greater alert.
A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were dispatched to the scene and a police official confirmed that they were rushed there to conduct an in-depth search. The depot was evacuated, as a precaution, in the meantime that the squad were examining the contents of the bag. The bag was then inspected carefully after which the authorities discovered that it had no explosives or any material that could be harmful and the alert was finally called a hoax.
Security has been enhanced in the entire state of Maharashtra especially in Mumbai due to the explosion at the Red Fort on Monday. The police in the city has also intensified the calls in major transport stations, busy markets and tourist spots, due to the fear of a possible coordinated attack.
To make matters worse, law enforcers recently discovered a significant white collar terror cell that cut across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh as well as Jammu and Kashmir. A number of doctors who were supposedly associated to a Jaish-e-Mohammad network were also arrested during the operation, and approximately 3,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate were seized in Faridabad – underlining the extent and level of the foiled operation.
The scare in CSMT on Friday, though it was eventually harmless, has demonstrated the nervous mood that the country is in, and the speed with which security agencies are reacting to all possible threats.
