The Pakistan Army today intruded into the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir and resorted to opening fire at Indian positions in violation of the ceasefire agreement. The Indian Army reacted strongly after this breach in the 2021 ceasefire understanding between Director Generals of Military Operations (DGsMO), as uniformed artillery practically brought the issue to a conclusion in the shortest possible duration.
An official statement said that in response to the provocation, the Nangi Tekri Battalion operating under the Krishna Ghati Brigade, did the needful. A mine blast took place on April 1, 2025, in the Krishna Ghati Sector because the Pakistan Army ventured into the Line of Control (LoC) on that day. It was followed by a lack of provocation and ceasefire violation. The troops were being very effective in a controlled, calibrated manner. The official said: ‘The situation is under control and being carefully monitored.’
The Indian Army confirmed that maintaining peace along the LoC was of utmost importance and it needs to be adhered to the DGsMO understanding both of 2003 and of 2021. But the latest violation has so far increased tensions along the border.
In the meantime, security forces intensified their operations in the Panjtirthi area of Kathua after gunmen opened fire on them. The suspicious movement was detected on the night of March 31, on which the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint operation. The early April 1 broke out in a fresh encounter.
At first light, security forces, reacting to that, began a search and destroy operation based on intelligence information, setting up surveillance and ambushes. “At the time of the ambush, the general area of Panjtirthi, Kathua, was covered by multiple surveillance cum ambushes,” said the Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army. “An exchange of fire ensued when they were suspicious of movement. ‘They are still engaged in search and destroy operations.”
Authorities have instituted increased security and watch the situation closely, keeping the region safe and stable.
