In a grave concern, Hyderabas MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised a furor on the recent violence perpetrated in Bangladesh country, blaming the lynching of 27-year-old Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das in the Mymensingh district of the country earlier this month. Using the term extremely unfortunate, Owaisi stated that it was an act that violated the principles of the Bangladesh constitution directly and demanded better protection of minority communities.
The assassination caused a great outcry and resulted in demonstrations in various cities in India, with New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and sections of Madhya Pradesh and Agartala being the cities to demonstrate. Different Hindu groups also organised protests outside the diplomatic missions of Bangladesh, as they demanded that the government take decisive action so that religious minorities in the neighbouring state can feel secure.
According to Owaisi, the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das was entirely against the basic constitutional requirement of Bangladesh, and the Constitution of Bangladesh had provided freedom of religion and equality before the law. What transpired is very tragic and unacceptable. There is lynching of every kind condemned by our party, he said.
In illuminating the constitutional organization of Bangladesh, Owaisi observed that the country was established on the principles of the secular nationalism of the Bengalis. In Bangladesh, there is a large non-Muslim population, which speaks the Bangla language. He added that Article 41 of the Constitution provides the freedom of religion, and Articles 27 and 28 provide equality in the eyes of the law and secularism, respectively.
The AIMIM leader further reiterated his support for the Government of India in the effort to ensure good and strong relations with Bangladesh by imperatively stating that peace and security in the neighbouring state is essential to India’s national security, especially in the northeastern part.
Lynching, which was carried out on December 18, has not only attracted international interest but also caused diplomatic uneasiness between India and Bangladesh. India has had similar concerns and fears, though the Ministry of External Affairs has been alarmed in the last week.
