Meghalaya: Over 1.2 lakh individuals have been influenced because of new floods that hit Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills area on Thursday morning. Hefty precipitation and downpour set off avalanches in and around Tura town, prompting a flood-like circumstance in the area. No relief camps were set up from the administration and people were forced to shift to safety without any help. 

Albeit no loss has been reported for, Tura and more than 40 towns have been hit by the floods. Rang Salona MLA rushed to the spot to evaluate the circumstance. I have visited a few flood-influenced towns in the region. I am presently visiting the Sangkarigre town situated under the Rerapara development block of West Garo Hills region’s Rang Salona. It has more than a hundred families and the whole town is lowered, and individuals have been uprooted, the MLA said. 

The MLA included that a portion of the individuals have been shifted to highland zones where their convenience has been arranged. 

We have reached the area administration to help arrange essential alleviation activity. Water flexibly is being guaranteed and big haulers are being sent every now and then. Till the water level recedes, tankers will keep on providing drinking water, the MLA said. 

Around 30 houses in Tura are harmed and the circumstance is being assessed as individuals are being moved to more secure areas. Stretches of streets have been washed away along the NH 51 public expressway while different streets in the state were additionally harmed. 

Appointee Commissioner of West Garo Hills Ram Singh stated, “Weighty precipitation with downpour caused avalanches around Tura town and Gambegre, Rongram, Rerapara, Selsella block. Around 30 houses in Tura are harmed and appraisal is continuing for different territories and individuals are being moved to more secure areas.” 

He included that till now, they have not set up help camps as the floods had occurred that morning.
