The Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Tuesday that over 520 million saplings have been planted across the country under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. This campaign was initiated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on World Environment Day on 5th June this year. Yadav brought out this achievement, which he claimed was achieved by the campaign within three months.

Speaking on the achievement of the campaign, Yadav said, “It has raised considerable awareness as over 520 million saplings have already been planted. ” Union Government of India has launched this huge plantation campaign, and PM Modi planted a peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. Ensuring the health and cleanliness of the environment can be interpreted as Modi’s call for the citizens of the country to contribute to the campaign.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the advantages of the common work during the past decade that contributed positively to raising the forest area in the country. This is an aspect that can be considered as a positive impact on sustainable development and shows the concern of local communities towards the environment. According to Modi, “India’s efforts in the last ten years have gone a long way in increasing the forest area, which counts as a major achievement toward sustainable development with much credit due to the active participation of the local communities.

In the recent past, even Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Union Minister, came up with his input towards the campaign. He planted a tree as one of the activities and made it clear that he would protect the environment. “Employees with our Kisan Kendras, Agricultural Universities and departmental offices are today, planting trees as a part of the plantation drive Many of us are working towards ensuring a sound environment fit for future generations”, Chouhan noted.

The current or continuous campaign helps in showing that it is everyone’s responsibility in the country to promote environmental conservation and sustainability to address climate issues hence the emphasis on promoting togetherness to make India a cleaner country or region.
