After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Pune district administration has made 100-plus Pakistani nationals leave India. According to the cited news agency reports, 111 Pakistani citizens residing in Pune are being told and asked to leave the country by April 27. Until April 29, medical visa holders in India will be given an extension.

Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi said that the local authorities are busy collecting the information by liaising with the regional passport branch and officials who issue visas. Pakistani nationals in Pune who hold visas here for tourism, medical treatment, and other purposes. He said that 111 individuals had thus far been identified and notified that their departure is mandatory within the stipulated time deadline.

That is after the deadly attack in Pahalgam in which 26 tourists lost their lives, pushing tensions between the Indian and Pakistani nations to an unprecedented level. The Indian government is taking a series of very strict measures, including on April 27, the revocation of all the valid visas of Pakistani nationals.

Pakistani citizens will not be allowed to enter India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) under the Ministry of External Affairs. Moreover, all Pakistani nationals presently in India under the SVES visa have been granted a 48-hour window to leave the country.

The diplomatic fallout worsened as India notified Pakistan of its intention to temporarily halt the Indus Waters Treaty. Her Pakistani counterpart, Secretary of Water Resources Debashree Mukherjee, formally wrote in a letter to her that continued support by Islamabad for the cross-border terrorism violates the terms of the treaty, and India had to act in defense of its national interests.
