New Delhi: Heavy rain continued to strike parts of Delhi and the national capital region for the second following day on Saturday, which led to waterlogging in many parts of the city. Normal life was thrown out of gear in the national capital, causing inconvenience for the commuters. Although the IMD bulletin projected moderate to heavy rain at isolated places towards evening/night on September 11, showers arrived here early morning itself. The weather office has predicted light to moderate intensity rainfall for Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The weather department said in its latest tweet on the situation, at 7:20 am, “Thunderstorm with moderate to heavy intensity rain and winds would continue to occur over and adjoining areas of many places of Delhi NCR such as Bahadurgarh, Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Loni Dehat, Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri and Greater Noida during the next two hours.”
Despite the monsoon appearing late this year, Safdarjung, Delhi’s base station for weather, crossed the 1,000mm rainfall mark for the season on Friday.
The Safdarjung observatory received 5.4mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period till 8.30 am on Friday, with 10.2mm of rainfall recorded between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm, taking the figure to 1,015.5mm. For the first time, it went past the 1,000mm mark since 2010, when Delhi received 1,031.5mm between June and September.
