New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha, amidst repeated adjournments due to rapid upheaval by the MPs of opposition parties, was adjourned till 9 AM on Wednesday. The opposition MPs were raising their voices over farm laws.
The entire chaos followed after the opposition MPs demanded a suspension of business for Tuesday and to continue a discussion on the farmers’ agitation against the three new agriculture laws were turned down by Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.
After this, the opposition MPs walked out of the Rajya Sabha. The Rajya Sabha Chairman Naidu, however, requested the MPs of the opposition parties to schedule the discussion for Wednesday, but the opposition leaders not agreeing to the proposal, walked out.
A host of opposition leaders presented their suspension of business notices as a sign of protest against the new farm laws, under Rule 267 of Rules and Procedure and Conduct of business.
“What’s the use of running the Parliament when we cannot raise the issues of farmers?”, said Sanjay Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party MP while interacting with the media.
Adding – “The chairman wanted that we should raise farmer’s issue when there will be discussion over President’s speech but opposition wanted to discuss it on priority”.
The MP also alleged that the agriculture laws were forcefully passed in the Parliament, whilst the proposal received a minority vote. Singh asserted that if the Parliament does not run, it will be the government’s responsibility.
