New Delhi: The deadlock on Parliament continued on Thursday, with opposition party leaders raising slogans and staging a walkout from the Rajya Sabha. The opposition MPs earlier also staged a protest at the Gandhi statue while wearing black bands. The opposition leaders have been protesting against the suspension of 12 MPs from the Rajya Sabha. Congress, TMC, NCP, RJD, TRS & IUML stage walkout from Rajya Sabha over the issue of inflation.
Among the opposition leaders who protested at the Gandhi statue inside the Parliament complex included Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and KC Venugopal. The Opposition MPs protesting while carrying banners and posters with slogans like “Save India” and “BJP kills Democracy” written on them. The Rajya Sabha Chairman had suspended 12 opposition MPs for the entire Winter Session for the ruckus that was created in the upper house on the last day of the Monsoon Session. The suspended Rajya Sabha MPs sat on a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament premises. The government has demanded an apology from the suspended members.
The 12 suspended MPs belonged to Congress (6), TMC (2), Shiv Sena (2), and one each from CPI(M) and CPI. Their names are Elamaram Kareem (CPM), Phulo Devi Netam, Chhaya Verma, R Bora, Rajamani Patel, Syed Nasir Hussain and Akhilesh Prasad Singh of the Congress, Binoy Viswam of CPI, Dola Sen and Shanta Chhetri of Trinamool Congress, Priyanka Chaturvedi and Anil Desai of Shiv Sena. Meanwhile, the lower house, the Lok Sabha, is debating the COVID-19 pandemic amid the new threat posed by the Omicron variant. The bill tabled in the Lower House by Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya proposes the setting up of a national registry and registration authority for clinics and medical professionals serving in the industry.
