Manipur– On July 29, 2023, an important development occurred in response to the conflict in Manipur, India. A delegation of 21 members from the opposition party called the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) embarked on a two-day visit to Manipur. They aimed to assess the situation and provide recommendations to the government and Parliament regarding the conflict between the Kukis and Meiteis. This conflict has resulted in 150 deaths and has displaced over 50,000 individuals.
The delegation comprises representatives from parties including Congress, TMC, DMK, CPI, CPI(M) RJD, JDU, SP, NCP, IUML, AAP, Shiv Sena, RSP VCK, and RLD. Their visit aims to bring opposition parties and pressure the government to address this crisis in Manipur. During their stay in Manipur, they plan to visit the valley and hill areas and meet with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
However, the ruling party members have criticized this visit. Union Minister Anurag Thakur has dismissed it as a pretence. Questioned whether these opposition parties would also visit states affected by violence, like West Bengal. BJP MP Ravi Kishan also commented that these opposition politicians are free to go what they want, implying that their main motive is gaining political advantage from this visit.
