NEW DELHI: Opposition’ Jairam Ramesh took a dig at PM Modi monikering him as Shikari Shambu” after two cheetahs died recently in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park.
Uday, a South African cheetah that was trabslocated under Cheetah Project in February died on Sunday, a month after Sasha died of kidney ailment.
“First Sasha dies in Kuno. Now Uday passes away. Sad. A word of anguish from Shikari Shambu would not have been out of place,” Ramesh said in a tweet, referring to the famous comic character.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Conservator of Forest, JS Chauhan, confirmed the death of Uday and said he died during treatment.“Another cheetah, Uday, who was brought from South Africa, had died during treatment after he was found sick at Kuno National Park. The reason for death is yet to be ascertained,” JS Chauhan said
At the daily check-up, Uday appeared lethargic and was limping, a press release by the forest department said. He was tranquilised and administered the first round of treatment at 11 am after which he was taken out from the large enclosure. Uday died hours later at 4 pm.
At present the overall count of Cheetahs is down to 18. Twenty cheetahs were brought from Namibia and South Africa as part of the Central government’s initiative of reintroducing the extinct feline into Indian ecosystems.
Sasha died on March 27th.
