New Delhi: India recorded 6,984 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.38 per cent accounted for 8,168 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,41,46,931. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.59 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 72 consecutive days.

The number of active cases stood at 87,562 accounting for 0.25 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 1431 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.37 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 247 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,76,135.

Centre on Tuesday issued fresh travel guidelines according to which passengers coming from ‘at-risk’ countries to six major Indian airports have to compulsorily pre-book for the on-arrival RT-PCR test from December 20 onwards. Maharashtra yesterday logged eight more cases of Omicron with seven being reported from Mumbai and one from the metropolitan’s outskirts – Vasai Virar. None of them has any history of international travel. However, one had travelled to Bangalore and another to Delhi, officials reported. With these new cases of the strain that has triggered a global alarm, the state’s total Omicron tally now stands at 28 and India’s at 57.

As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 134.61 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, including 68.89 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
