New Delhi: India recorded 5,784 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.37 per cent accounted for 7,995 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,41,38,763. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.58 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 71 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 88,993; lowest in 563 days accounting for 0.26 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 2463 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.37 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 252 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,75,888.
A 42-year-old man from Gujarat who recently returned from South Africa tested positive for the Omicron variant of coronavirus on Monday with which took the Omicron tally to 41. So far, Maharashtra reports the highest number of cases followed by Rajasthan, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh and Union Territories of Delhi and Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, Britain on Monday confirmed the first confirmed death attributed to infection with the Omicron variant. Citing the spiking infection rates, the country launched an ambitious Covid booster shot programme on Monday to stop the virus spiralling out of control.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 133.38 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, including 66.98 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
