Nowgham Blast: A powerful blast took place in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowgam on Friday night, killing at least nine people. The explosion took place while police officers and an FSL team were conducting an inspection inside the premises.

The explosion took place when the authorities were extracting samples from a large cache of explosives recently seized in connection with the Faridabad terror module case, officials said on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses and CCTV clips from the area show the blast ripping through the building, sending flames and thick smoke into the air.

Director General of J&K Police Nalin Prabhat addressed the media in the morning as further details of the accidental explosion inside the Nowgam Police Station. DGP Prabhat termed the blast an accidental explosion and said that any other speculation is “unnecessary”.

DGP Prabhat said the FSL team was taking samples of the explosives retrieved from Faridabad for the last two days. “Due to the sensitive and unstable nature of the recovery, the handling was being done with extreme caution. Unfortunately, at 11.20pm, an explosion took place,” DGP Prabhat told media.
