The in-laws of the alleged dowry death case victim, Nikki Bhati, performed the last rites at the matrimonial home after her parents initially refused to allow her mates to carry out the burning ceremonies. Her own brother, Vicky Payla, is quoted as saying that when her corpse was delivered to her home at Dadri, her in-laws kept urging her to put up the last rites, telling them that it was their last wish. The family accepted this after some reluctance.

Vicky also disclosed that, on holding the decision to hand over the body, it was Nikki’s sister, Kanchan, who got married to the brother of Vipin Bhati, which influenced the decision. She almost begged the family to give the in-laws another chance, as they had all the chances over the years. The argument of the members of the Bhati family is that it would dent their pride by not being given an opportunity to perform the cremation.

Nikki Bhati, 28, was burnt alive by her husband, Vipin and his family on August 21 over a dowry claim. Shocking videos that were spread by her sister, Kanchan, appeared on social media, where Nikki is burned after being beaten up by Vipin. Vipin Bhati and his brother Rohit have been arrested by the police along with their parents in regard to the case.

The crime came as a result of months of conflict between Nikki and her parents because of her wish to open a beauty parlour and be an active user on Instagram, where she regularly posted on reels with her sister. On the fateful day, Nikki approached her husband once more and asked him to restart the parlour that she owned jointly with him, but Vipin denied her requests and insisted that women in his family could never be permitted to operate a business or create any kind of social content.

CCTV and other clips taken on the day of the incident show scenes outside the house, and some of the moments are horrifying, displaying Nikki engulfed by flames.
