New Delhi: The NITI Ayog on Friday held a dialogue with the concerned ministries and various social service organizations regarding the future planning of children orphaned by the pandemic.
Taking to his microblogging account, CEO Amitabh Kant informed about the meeting being held with the Empowered Group-7, constituted by the Central Government. The tweet read- “In the meeting of the Empowered Group-7 constituted by the Government of India, the NITI Aayog held consultations with the concerned ministries and their views were sought from various social service organizations on how to make the future of the children orphaned by COVID-19 bright.”

As per the statistics documented by the centre, 3 lakh Indians have succumbed to the virus since its outbreak in December 2019, abandoning thousands of children from their parents and guardians. In the light of this grief, the Centre and State governments collaboratively announced provisions for these children.
Last week, PM Modi had announced support for all children who lost their parents or guardians to the savaging virus under the ‘PM-CARES for Children’s Scheme’. A specially designed scheme will operate under the PM CARES fund to create a corpus of Rs 10 Lakh for each child when he or she reaches adulthood.
Free education for children, assisted loans for higher education, and health insurance will also be extended to these children till the age of 18. Other state governments have announced similar schemes like monthly stipends and free schooling.
