Karnataka: The Karnataka government led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday decided to hand over the Praveen Nettaru murder case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The announcement came after CM held a meeting with senior police officials of the state. Giving insights on the meeting Bommai further stated that the cabinet had decided to install more check points along the Karnataka-Kerala border and reinforce CCTV coverage in sensitive areas of Dakshina Kannada district. He further said that police camps would be set up in sensitive areas of the district and a unit of KSRP batallion would be deployed to maintain law and order in the district.
Several leaders of the BJP, including Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje, had urged the Union Home Ministry to order an NIA probe into the murder of Praveen Nettaru. The family of the deceased, too, had urged the chief minister to hand over the probe to the NIA, when he met the family on Thursday.
On Thursday, the state police nabbed two in connection with the murder of BJP Yuva worker. Nettaru’s murders sparked protests across the district. A tense environment prevailed as strong reactions from right wing organizations voiced strong protests and called for a bandh.
