In a sweeping operation on Tuesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated extensive raids at 30 locations across multiple states to dismantle the intricate networks connecting terrorists and gangsters within India. The coordinated efforts spanned Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh.
Collaborating closely with state police forces, NIA teams led the crackdown, focusing on sites linked to suspects identified through specific intelligence obtained during prior interrogations of individuals apprehended in connection with the case, according to reports from the news agency.
The NIA spokesperson highlighted the agency’s recent targeted strategies, which included the attachment and seizure of properties derived from the “proceeds of terrorism.” These efforts underscore the commitment to disrupt and dismantle terrorist and mafia networks, along with their supporting infrastructure.
These networks have been implicated in various high-profile crimes, including the assassinations of notable figures like Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and social leaders like Pardeep Kumar. Additionally, they are allegedly involved in extensive extortion schemes targeting businesspersons and professionals.
In January, the NIA conducted raids at 32 locations across northern India, uncovering illegal arms, ammunition, incriminating documents, digital devices, and cash. The operations were linked to three cases involving the banned organizations Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The agency revealed that these operations exposed the smuggling and procurement of terrorist hardware, including arms, ammunition, explosives, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), from across borders.
The seized terror hardware is believed to be used by operatives of terror outfits and organized crime syndicates for activities such as bomb blasts, targeted killings, extortions, and funding of these outfits in various parts of the country. The NIA’s persistent efforts underscore the commitment to neutralizing threats and safeguarding national security by dismantling the intricate web of connections between terrorism and organized crime.
