National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a chargesheet against the Kwatka car-borne blast mastermind and another culprit who executed the bombing in June 2023 in Manipur. The explosion harmed three in addition to the very high level of property cost.
Moreover, two militants, Muhammad Noor Hussain alias Tomba and Seiminlun Gangte alias Minlun, have been charged under the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Substances Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
The explosion was located on the bridge by the way of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta, which is part of Tiddim Road (NH-02). The bridge, as well as attic poles and nearby houses, were damaged by the blast. The inquiry established that Noor Hussain was the one who drove the car which was fitted with the bomb- and Gangte had the role of a mastermind.
Gangte recruited associates for reconnaissance and execution of the explosion, intending to strike terror and disrupt security forces’ movement and supplies. The NIA continues to search for other absconding suspects.
Ethnic tensions between Meiteis and the tribal Kuki-Zo community have plagued Manipur since May last year, resulting in violence and displacement. The clashes erupted over proposed changes to the state’s reservation matrix, with protests turning violent and displacing thousands.
While the curfew and internet shutdown have failed to stop further ethnic divisions, security forces maintaining a buffer zone is still in the National Transitional Elections. Even though there has been no report of using violence in the last 47 days, which indicates evidently that we do have some progress for peace.
Manipur State Chief Minister N Biren Singh felt that eventually, a peaceful settlement of ethnic strife would be found, which went well with the improving situation in Manipur.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to be in Imphal of the coming elections on 15th April. His visit shows just how connected we all are and stresses on the awareness of problems and sustainability. Overall, the chargesheet filing by NIA and ongoing efforts to address ethnic tensions reflect the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in Manipur.
