The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a CRPF Assistant Sub-Inspector, Moti Ram Jat, on grave charges of espionage, alleging he shared sensitive national security information with Pakistani intelligence officers. The anti-terror agency, in a recent statement, confirmed Jat’s arrest in Delhi and revealed that he had been actively involved in these illicit activities since 2023.

According to the NIA, Jat was not only providing classified information but was also receiving funds from his Pakistani handlers through various conduits. This financial trail is a key aspect of the ongoing investigation, as authorities seek to uncover the full extent of this alleged spy network.

The CRPF, upon discovering Jat’s alleged misconduct through “sustained monitoring” of his social media activity in coordination with central agencies, swiftly dismissed him from service with effect from May 21, 2025, citing violations of established norms and protocols. He was subsequently handed over to the NIA for further inquiry.

Moti Ram Jat was produced before a Special Court at Patiala House Courts in Delhi and has been remanded to NIA custody until June 6, allowing the agency to conduct further interrogations and expand their probe. This arrest comes amidst a heightened crackdown by Indian agencies on individuals suspected of collaborating with Pakistan-based intelligence operatives, emphasizing India’s unwavering commitment to national security.
