Mumbai: In Mumbai, two overseas travellers were diagnosed with Omicron. Two cases of Omicron were detected in Mumbai on Monday, bringing Maharashtra’s total to 10. Both patients are properly vaccinated and have a history of foreign travel. On November 25, 2021, a 37-year-old man from Johannesburg, South Africa, tested positive for the new variant. His 36-year-old companion, who returned from the United States on the same day as him, has also tested positive.
Both individuals received the Covid-19 vaccination from Pfizer. Both people have been taken to Mumbai’s Seven Hills Hospital with no symptoms. Genome sequencing was performed on their samples at the National Institute of Virology. Following the detection of over 20 cases of the Omicron type of coronavirus in India, several states have increased vaccination, monitoring, and containment efforts. Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, said on Monday that a national decision on whether a booster dosage of the vaccine is needed to combat the pandemic is needed. He added, “The Centre too should take a strict position on patients coming from abroad in various states. It must be ensured that rules are observed strictly at our international airports.”
