On Thursday, JNMF proposes to start the ‘Nehru Archive,’ an extensive web-based initiative that will endeavor to capture a huge amount of data about the life and times of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
The archive is to be opened on 14th November 2025 on the 136th birth year anniversary of Nehru and in response to the invitation, the contributions to the 135th birth year anniversary of Nehru.
This digital archive will consist of collections as follows: The Selected Works of Jawaharlal Nehru (100 volumes); Letters to Chief Ministers: Jawaharlal Nehru: 1947-1964; and Letters from a Father to His Daughter by Jawaharlal Nehru, Glimpses of World History by Jawaharlal Nehru, An Autobiography by Jawaharlal Nehru, The Unity of India Also, there will be a collection of Nehru’s speeches 1917-1964, bios and writings of Nehru’s contemporaries, global archive materials including a collection of unknown and unpublished writings of Nehru.
The Nehru Archive is proposed to be developed on the pattern of world-class Archives like the Wilson Centre Archives & others of Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, and John F Kennedy. This is a part of the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund, which is a larger endeavor to keep Nehru’s memories alive.
The Fund was set up in 1964 for various activities such as the publication work of writings and speeches of Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture, and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fellowship. The Fund also owns Anand Bhawan and the Jawahar Planetarium in Prayagraj.
It was done during the Teen Murti Complex, which is Nehru’s residence, turning into a museum now with the museum of the Prime Minister of India along with a library section having a special focus on Nehru. Another opportunity will be a new Nehru Archive, which will also help to strengthen the Fund’s focus on the continuous relevance of Nehru.
