Nagaland: Addressing the incident, the Indian Army’s 3 Corps based in Dimapur have begun an enquiry headed by a Major rank officer sources reported. The state police has lodged an FIR in which it alleges the Army unit had intention of murdering and injuring civilians. Officials claim Para Special forces were brought in for operation from Assam based on specific intelligence about the movement of NSCN cadres.
Attending the funeral of the civilians killed in the firing at Oting in Mon district, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio demanded removal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSP). Meanwhile, T. Yepthomi, NDPP MP from Nagaland in Lok Sabha today updated the centre on the ex-gratia of Rs 5Lakh announced to the next kin of the deceased persons. Reportedly on Sunday night, Nagaland Transport minister Paieang Konyak handed over the ex-gratia to the Village Council Chairman. He further demanded the centre to issue compensation to those affected.
Thirteen villagers and a soldier died at an Indo-Myanmar border district in Nagaland on Saturday evening in a counter insurgency operation. While on Sunday, another civilian was killed in the Mon town area when the agitated mob rammed into Assam Rifles camp and lit up a part of their camp. Two critically injured civilains are being treated at Assam Medical College and Hospital Diburgarh while three others were airlifted to Dimapur.
