Mumbai: The financial capital of India woke up to heavily flooded streets after it witnessed heavy downpours overnight. The waterlogged areas resulted in massive traffic jams in several parts of the city. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there will be intense showers in both Raigad and Thane districts.
In the hours ending at 8:30 AM on Sunday, the Colaba observatory in South Mumbai recorded 92 mm rainfall. As per the IMD data for Mumbai, the Santacruz observatory recorded 142 mm rainfall. Contrarily, Vidarbha and Marathwada received less intense rainfall. The MeT Department has predicted less intense rainfall in Colaba and Santacruz on Sunday.
IMD has also issued a red alert for heavy downpours in Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra for July 14. Besides, an orange alert has been issued for Kerela, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Gujarat, Odisha, Mizoram, and Tripura.
The water level in Gujarat’s Madhuban dam rose due to heavy rains in Valsad. The Disaster Management Officer Naseem Sheikh said that heavy rainfall in Valsad district, many low-lying areas have been inundated, leaving the national highway flooded.
