Mumbai: A 27-year-old man from Mumbai has been taken into custody for marrying and raping 15-year-old multiple times. The heinous act came to light after the minor delivered a baby at the JJ Hospital Mumbai. The truth behind the age pregnant minor surfaced when the doctors of the hospital checked the Aadhar card. As per the ID card, the minor was born in June 2006. The hospital authorities immediately informed the Agripada police station under whose jurisdiction the wedding was solemnized.
The mother, the parents of the accused and the priest who performed the wedding rituals were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Act 2012 and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 after a complaint was lodged on Sunday.
The victims’ mother cites her financial crisis- the cause that forced her to stop her daughters’ education and get her married. Tough the arrest is confirmed by the Senior Inspector Shriram Korgaonkar of Agripada Police, further details about the case shall be revealed after the next hearing. The accused has been remanded to police custody until December 24. However, the priest who performed the rituals is still absconding.
