In view of a lower covid positivity rate across the country, most state governments have decided to re-open schools again. After the Delhi govt took the decision to reopen schools from September, the MP government has also decided that students of classes 6 to 8 will resume school in the state from Sept 1 alongside classes 9-12, but with certain guidelines.
MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that every parent’s consent will be mandatory if their ward comes for classes in the school. The classes will start with 50% attendance and therein as the situation improves, it will shift to normal attendance procedures. The decision by the CM came after some private schools staged protests for the closure of schools.
All government and private schools to remain functional from Sept 1 with 50% attendance in Madhya Pradesh. The schools in MP reopened back in July but only for classes 9 to 12. Now, classes 6 to 8 will also be able to resume school after being at home for more than a year now. The chief minister also instructed that the schools have to abide by the covid protocols and ensure the safety of the kids at the school premises.
Inder Singh Parmar, the health minister of Madhya Pradesh said, “First we have plans to reopen middle schools with limited students on specific days a week. We are thinking over it. After that, we will think about the resumption of classes for primary schools (Classes 1 to 5) with safeguards in place”, in view of reopening school for primary classes. Meanwhile, India logged a covid positivity rate of less than 3% in the last few months which is a positive sign for the people of the country. Let’s hope for a corona-free nation soon.
