Madhya Pradesh: The Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday issued an order to extend the benefit of the fortified reserve to other backward classes from 14% to 27% under the revised Civil Service Law (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBC) from March 8, 2019.
Bhupendra Singh, Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Minister speaking to ANI said, “Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government has cleared 27 per cent (from 14 per cent) reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) for all departments, excluding the three departments which were put on stay. It’s a historic decision.”
The order issued by the General Administration of Madhya Pradesh government on clarification of suspension orders granted by High Court in cases related to OBC reservations, reads, “There are various writ petitions pending before the Hon’ble High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Principal Seat at Jabalpur, where the provisions of the M.P. Lok Seva Sanshodhan Adhiniyam, 2019 are under challenge, whereby the reservation for the OBC class has been increased from 14 per cent to 27 per cent.”
The purpose of the government behind the formation of the Backward Classes Welfare Commission is to procure votes from the OBCs. The population of the OBC category in Madhya Pradesh is about 52 per cent, which delivers the government a huge share of votes from the former caste.
