Bhopal: Before the legislative assembly begins, a new law has been passed by the UP government in which forced religious conversions will be curbed and sentenced to a jail term of min 10 years along with a fine of 1 lakh. The new bill is called the “Dharma Swatantra” bill which comes a month after Yogi Adityanath led UP passed the same bill. Many forceful conversions take place in the country due to which such bills are passed by the cabinet.
If anyone is found guilty of forced conversion then they will be penalized heavily. And if anyone wants to change the religion by will then he or she has to apply two months in advance for confirmation by the government. If they fail to do so, then the marriage will be considered “null and void”.
Several criminal aspects have been reported in MP where minor girls are forcibly converted and thus this decision is taken by the cabinet. But some misuse of the bill can also be seen wherein a couple coming back from a friend’s birthday party was forcibly taken to a nearby police station and later the case was registered as “love jihad” and both of them were lawfully subjected.
