New Delhi: India recorded 7,145 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.38 per cent accounted for 8,706 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,41,71,471. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.57 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 75 consecutive days.
The number of active cases stood at 84,565, lowest in 569 days accounting for 0.24 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 1850 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.37 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 289 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,77,158.
Omicron cases in India have been recording a surge drastically. Another state, UP added to the list, reporting first Omicron cases. 2 Ghaziabad residents who returned from Maharashtra tested positive, UP health officials informed. On the other hand, Kerala and Gujarat logged another two infections taking the tally to 7. Maharashtra, the worst hit state has been reporting striking surge. A Pfizer triple jabbed New York returnee in Mumbai tested positive for infection due to Omicron on Friday. Cumulatively, 40 omicron cases have been reported.
Addressing a press briefing on #COVID19, Dr. VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog, said, “If we look at the scale of spread in the UK & if there is a similar outbreak in India, then given our population, there will be 14 lakh cases every day.” Centre warns the citizens against dropping guards and advised to refrain from non essential travel.
As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 136.66 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, including 62.06 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
