Mumbai: As heavy rains lashed the economic capital of the country, Mumbai, and its suburb last night, parts of the city witnessed waterlogging and heavy traffic causing inconvenience to the residents. Other coastal districts of Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg were also lashed by heavy rains with big and small local rivers swelling above the danger levels. People living in the vicinity of landslide or hillside-prone areas and on the banks of the Arabian Sea have been put on high alert.
The monsoon trough is active across the country and there are strong westerly winds. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Konkan area of Maharashtra, Goa, Coastal Karnataka, and Kerela.
Meanwhile in Assam, the plight of flooded areas slightly improved as the water receded from two or more state districts. Floods in Assam have affected 14 lakh people across 22 districts and 40,000 hectares of land. The devastating floods have claimed more than 180 lives so far this year.
