The IMD has reported that monsoon is now expected to arrive at the Andaman Islands on Tuesday, 13 May. This comes earlier a week as compared to the other years where we had to wait for monsoon till the last two weeks of May to arrive at the Andaman Islands.
There have been fairly general rains accompanied by scattered heavy showers in the past 24 hours throughout the Nicobar Islands. The India Meteorological Department is forecasting a rise in rainfall in the region over the next few hours, including isolated heavy and very heavy downpours. IMD states that the southwest monsoon is expected to further penetrate into other parts of the Andaman Sea, South Bay of Bengal, and across the Andaman and Nicobar islands because of the favorable meteorological setup.
The department also noted that favorable weather patterns will help propel monsoon into the southern Arabian Sea, Maldives, the Comorin region, and other parts of the central Bay of Bengal in the next 4–5 days. This experimentation marks us to a potential beginning of the monsoon that will be beneficial for areas that rely on early precipitation positively.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also warned of the possibility of heat wave conditions in such areas of India. The heat is expected to continue up to May 15 in West Bengal. A heat wave could develop in Jharkhand from May 13, Uttar Pradesh from May 14, and West Rajasthan on May 15.
It is expected that moderate to light rainfall plus thunderstorms and lightning will frame West, Central, and South Peninsular India for the next five days. Massive and very heavy rainfall, coupled with thunderstorms and lightning, is also expected in Northeast India within the next days.
