NEW DELHI: As per IMD India is expected to receive normal rainfall in the monsoon season this year. Despite the likely emergence of El Nino weather conditions, the weather department predicts monsoon is likely to produce 96 percent of normal rainfall, a good indication for the agrarian economy.
The IMD said this region, comprising Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, was likely to get less than 92 percent rainfall during the entire season. The other regions were expected to get normal or above-normal rainfall, it said.
Announcing the stage-2 long-range forecast for Southwest Monsoon 2023, the weather department said rainfall during the June-September period is likely to be 96 percent of the long-term average, with an error margin of +/-4 percent of the long-period average.
As per IMD, “Once the monsoon will get established strong, we are expecting the monsoon to arrive in Kerala around 4th June. Before 1st June, we are not expecting monsoon to arrive”
Speaking of June rainfall predictions, IMD said that average rainfall over the country in this month is most likely to be below normal. It added that some areas of south peninsular India, northwest India, extreme north India, and some isolated of northeast India could likely see above-normal rainfall.
Meanwhile, in a major heat relief, the national capital was lashed by rain along with thunderstorms and gusty winds on Friday. The Met has predicted these conditions would prevail throughout May.
