National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is in full swing to form its new government under the leadership of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister. Over the weekend, the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be conducted. It is said by people familiar with the matter that a number of leaders of neighboring countries, including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, are likely to be invited to the ceremony. After a historic third consecutive term with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning 293 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, Modi is all set to take charge as the prime minister.
The top leaders of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius are likely to be among the foreign leaders invited to Modi’s oath-taking ceremony as PM. The Sri Lankan President’s Office media division confirmed that the President has been invited by Modi to the swearing-in ceremony, and the same has been accepted by the President as well. It is also said that Wickremesinghe congratulated Modi on the electoral victory in a phone call. “During the conversation, Prime Minister @narendramodi invited President Wickremesinghe to his swearing-in ceremony, which President @RW_UNP accepted,” it said.
A telephonic conversation was also held by Modi with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The diplomatic sources said that Modi invited Hasina to attend his swearing-in ceremony, which was accepted by her. It is also said that Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, and Nepalese Prime Minister and Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, are set to be invited to Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. A separate telephonic conversation was held with Modi and Prachanda. According to sources, on Thursday, formal invitations are set to be sent.
On June 8, Modi is likely to take the oath in the presence of global dignitaries. The BJP could not get a majority on its own in the polls, but the party-led alliance secured 293 seats out of 543.
