New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar infected with COVID-19. The announcement was made on Twitter in which he urged his recent contacts to test and take necessary steps.
“Have tested Covid positive. Urge all those who have come in recent contact to take suitable precautions,” Mr Jaishankar tweeted.
Earlier in the day, Mr Jaishankar took part in a virtual event along with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.
Since the emergence of Omicron, India has been recording a drastic surge in the active tally. With the variant detected across 27 states and UTs of India, there has been much alertness of the third wave of the pandemic.
The health ministry today, said that the overall COVID-19 positivity rate in India is at 17 per cent currently. According to NCDC Director Sujeet Singh the Omicron variant, BA.2 is more prevalent in India against the BA.1 that was observed in international arrivals. As per the statistics, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are the major contributors of the caseload recorded.
