The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) termed the violation at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala as ‘deeply regrettable’ on Monday and said it deeply regrets the incident. The breach took place at a time when thousands of people were out on the streets of Tripura’s capital, agitating for the release of ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. People also urged to release him right now as well as stop attacking Hindus in Bangladesh; this was being chanted.

According to its statement, the MEA pointed out that diplomatic and consular reservations may not be subject to aggression and must be inviolable. The ministry also said it is coming up with measures to enhance security at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi as well as the Assistant High Commission offices throughout the country.

The protest meeting was held near the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala and was addressed by the Hindu Sangharsh Samity, a wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Sankar Roy, Secretory of VHP, Tripura, spoke with the reporters and protested the escalating attacks on Hindu temples, traders and houses in Bangladesh soon after the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Chinmoy first accused the government of exacerbating the problem for Hindus in the country, arresting Hindu leaders, such as himself, Chinmoy Krishna Da,s for protesting against the oppressions.

Roy also urged the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to convey its concern to the Bangladesh government about Chinmoy’s arrest and growing attacks on religious minorities. The protesters also gave a memorandum to Arif Mohammad, the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala, demanding immediate action.

Violent protests continue to emerge in Bangladesh and elsewhere, including new protests in Bangladesh and India over attacks on Hindus and other minorities. Chinmoy Krishna Das has become the next arrest that fueled the protesters’ demand for his immediate freedom.
